Looking inside out

A lot of people discovered a fun, new hobby during the lockdown last spring: bird watching. The Society for the Protection of Birds offers a free online course which teaches people about various types of birds. This course proved to be very popular and meant that lots more people learned to recognise and identify the birds they spotted in the garden or on their balconies. Almost 2000 residents of Amsterdam counted a total of 26,000 birds during the official garden count. This year 90,264 people throughout the Netherlands took part compared to 77,000 people last year. It is still possible to register for the online course Garden Birds in the Netherlands via the Society for the Protection of Birds website or via the following link https://www.vogelbescherming.nl/ontdek-vogels/kennis-over-vogels/online-vogelcursussen
