Meervaart | Lockdown Battle
It has been quiet in the Meervaart. Normally we welcome many people into the building to watch performances, films, and attend conventions. Now no one was allowed inside for three months. No buzz in the building, no animated conversations in the foyer. But most of all no moving, funny or wonderful shared experiences among audience members. In this digital exhibition we want to share what it means to close a theatre. For the employees, artists, and the audience. But also the search for possibilities, like this digital exhibition. On June first we put the door ajar.
In June the Meervaart presents intimate dance and music programs, films, and cross medial programs. All activities will be covid-proof. We have opened out doors for small performances with 30 audience members at a time. It’s lovely to have people back in the building and we hope to fully open again soon.
The mission of the Meervaart is to make all residents of Nieuw-West part of their activities. Theatre is an important and valuable part of life and the civil society. By focussing on cultural participation, education, and performances we facilitate encounters, discussion, and reflection. The Meervaart wants to be the home of Nieuw-West where mutual respect, curiosity, and braking down cultural barriers are the building blocks.
