On the initiative of the board of the Amsterdam artists’ association Arti et Amicitiae on the Rokin, a large part of the facade of the building has been hermetically sealed. Every fortnight Arti places varying quotes / texts / art expressions on that facade for as long as Arti is still closed. Arti communicates with this statement that although Arti is closed according to the guidelines of the RIVM, the making and propagation of art continues tirelessly.
Last two weeks the first work was shown on the facade. Frans Franciscus, artist and board member of Arti, contributed the first statement: ‘WHAT IS STRESS? IT’S WORRYING ABOUT SOMETHING IN THE FUTURE, ART IS NOW’, a quote by David Hockney from an interview with him in The Guardian on 4 April.
From Monday 18 May the facade will show ART = LIFE = ART, an initiative of chairman of the board and artist Babeth M. VanLoo. For this project, five female Arti artists will give their reactions to the present time.
Until Arti reopens, alternating artistic expressions will be shown on the closed facade of Arti every two weeks. According to the latest reports, Arti will open its doors again on 2 June.

How can interspaces serve as a new or temporary place for art and interaction? Now that cultural institutions are forced to close or are allowed to open only to a very limited extent, interspaces such as doors and window frames are being used as a stage. A place that is appropriated here and that plays with the prescribed rules. Closed, yet open to the exchange of ideas, interventions and art in the broadest sense.
