Crises of imagination?
The Corona virus epidemic and climate change may both in part be crises of imagination. We can’t imagine our trusted lives be shaken in a major way.
We also can hardly imagine the radical measures necessary to avoid such crises, until we take them.
These paintings predate the pandemic. It is a series of paintings on climate change: Tempest, about anxiety, (ir)responsibility and overcoming pessimism.
However, these paintings fit the pandemic, and highlight the proximity of the crises. May the pandemic make us realise that radical measures are possible, we are ready for them, also ones to fight climate change.
