April 27 is the birthday of king Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. Due to coronavirus, we celebrate King’s day in a different way this year. In Shanghai we cancelled our annual King’s day and Dutch National Day reception party.
In The Netherlands, the clock will ring at 9:45 this morning. The King’s day fair, which used to be a lively event for children, will start at 12:00 this year. Children are invited to write to the king and tell him about the influence of novel coronavirus on them. The letters were to be given to the king in the afternoon. At 16:00, the Dutch people will be at home, toasting the king’s 53rd birthday. Although we won’t be able to celebrate together this year, we are looking forward to King’s Day in 2021. Long live the king!
