Bat Mitswa Elle Chassin
On Saturday, April 18, Elle Chassin did her bat mitzvah in the synagogue of the Liberal Jewish Congregation in Amsterdam. With a bat mitzvah it is celebrated that a girl is of religious age from the age of twelve. Normally the whole shul (synagogue) would be full with family and friends, but because of the corona-measures this was not possible. In an almost empty synagogue, Elle read from the Torah for the first time. Only her parents, brothers, the rabbi and the cantor were there. Family and friends watched and listened from their living rooms via Zoom. In this video you see Elle saying the Shema, one of the most important prayers in Judaism.
